SMU Library Renovation

location:Oakland, CA

owner:Samuel Merritt University

completion:March 2009

As part of their overall campus Master Plan and renovation, Samuel Merritt University retained KMA to renovate and expand the John A. Graziano Memorial Library and the main entrance to their Health Education Library. The renovation created a more hospitable and inviting library and included improvements in ADA accessibility, and an expanded space to accommodate the programmatic needs of a modern health sciences library. Improvements to the existing 6,300 sq ft library include an inviting transparent entrance to the library and expansion and improvements to the circulation desk for accessibility and functionality. An additional 5,000 sq ft of space of expanded space provided study stations, a new computer lab, administrative and staff work space plus a lounge, storage, and conference room.
