location:Berkeley, CA
developer:Affordable Housing Associates
completion:September 1998
This four-story, 27-unit affordable housing development is constructed on a 6,000 square foot site in downtown Berkeley. It complements the surrounding urban community, while providing a lively, comfortable living environment for low to very-low income seniors. The building is set between an historic structure and a modern housing project for the University of California, and thus was designed to bridge the gap between the two existing structures. On the fourth-floor, a hardwood deck overlooks San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge beyond. Its rooftop garden and exterior hallways make the building an active part of the community.
