UCSF Moffitt Cafe

Location: San Francisco, CA
Owner: University Of California San Francisco
Completion: December 2010

In 2008 we were hired to renovate the primary Cafeteria at UCSF Medical Center’s Parnassus Campus. Located in the Moffitt and Long Buildings, the existing cafeteria was last renovated in 1985. In addition to providing a space commensurate with the stature of the institution, UCSF wanted a more attractive dining choice for visitors and staff with increased operational efficiency. The project includes the complete replacement of all food service equipment in the Servery to support a newly expanded menu.

As part of the of the Cafeteria renovation project, UCSF Medical Center wanted to add a quick-serve cafe with 24-hour service to cover late-night hours when the Cafeteria is closed. The 550 square foot Moffitt Cafe Express is strategically located just in front of the Cafeteria and directly opposite the primary elevator bank for the hospital. In addition to coffee and pastries it also offers pre-packaged sandwiches, salads and snacks. Since opening in the Fall of 2010 the Express has been a run away success with staff and patients alike.
